Alice is 150 years old!

This year is the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland and children all around the world will be celebrating the occasion with games and events.

On July 4th 1862 Lewis Carroll went for a boat ride with a friend and his young daughters. Carroll described the adventures of a curious little girl named Alice, the same name as one of the children on the boat. The children liked the story so much that they asked Carroll to write it down. In July 1865, Carroll finished writing the book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

In the book Alice eats cake that makes her grow very big. She meets a talking rabbit and many more unusual characters. The original illustrations of Alice in Wonderland were in black and white until 1889. Since then Alice’s famous dress has been red, blue and yellow.

You can celebrate Alice’s anniversary by reading the book or watching one of the film adaptations.
